The AI horizon is variable in texture, but it is <br />mostly silt loam or loam. Th A3g and Clg horizons <br />are mostly silty clay loam. The C horizon is silty <br />clay loam stratified with thin seams of loamy very <br />fine sand. It ranges from dark grayish brown, in hue <br />of2.5Yand 10YR, to greenish gray and bluish gray, <br />in hue of 50Y and 5B. In places the Cg horizott is <br />underlain by wet sand or fine gravel at a dept of 40 <br />inches or more. <br /> <br />Bm-Bloom silt loam. This soil is along the major <br />drainageways. The areas are elongated and cover as <br />much as 400 acres. <br /> <br />Included with this soil in mapping are areas of <br />Apishapa silty clay that make up about 10 percent of <br />the acreage. Also included are small areas of soils <br /> <br />that are similar to the Bloom soils but are poorly <br />drained. <br /> <br />Runoff is slow, and the hazard of erosion is <br />moderate. The soil is subject to occasional, brief <br />flooding. The seasonal high water table is at a depth <br />ofl.5 to 3 feet. There is a moderate to high <br />concentration of salts, and salts tend to accumulate <br />on the surface in areas where the capillary moisture <br />from the ground water reaches the soil surface. <br /> <br />The soil has a high potential for pasture. The native <br />grasses are mainly alkali sacaton and inland <br />saltgrass. Willow and tam larisk grow in places. <br />Capability units IIlw-l, irrigated, and Viw-I, <br />nooirrigated; Salt Meadow range site. <br /> <br />Limon Series <br />The Limon series consists of deep, well-drained <br />soils. These soils formed on alluvial fans and <br />terraces in clayey alluvium. The slope is 0 to 5 <br />wcent, and elevation is 4,300 to 5,100 feet. The <br />average annual precipitation is 12 inches. The <br />average annual temperature is 53' F, and the frost- <br />free season is 145 to 175 days. The native vegetation <br />is mainly plains grasses. <br /> <br />In a representative profile the surface layer is gray- <br />ish-brown silty clay loam about 4 inches thick. The <br />sub-surface layer is light brownish-gray silty clay <br />about 14 inches thick. The underlying material is <br />light brownish-gray silty clay about 17 inches thick <br />over light brownish-gray silty clay loam that extends <br />to a depth of 60 inches or more. <br /> <br />Permeability is slow, and the available water cap- <br />acity is high. The surface and subsurface layers are <br />moderately alkaline and the underlying material is <br />moderately alkaline or strongly alkaline.
