McMillan, manager of the <br />Mountain View Electric Ass'n. for the <br />past 16 years, tendered his resignation <br />to the bOlU"d of directors at the board <br />meeting held immediately following <br />the annual meeting of the association <br />'In Limon September 9, 1961. <br />McMillan said he had bee" "plagued <br />by III health for the past three years, <br />.and since I have attained the age of <br />retirement I deemed it the proper oc- <br />casion to tender my resignation," <br />McMillan came to Limon hi May of <br />1945, as manager of the rural electrio <br />cooperative, having been previously <br />employed as lI$5istant manager of II <br />similar cooperative in Hutchinson, Kan- <br />sas. He and <br />Mrs. McMillan make their borne at 1322 <br />Diana Lane in Colorado Spxings. <br />Ralph McMillan was responsible for <br />the connection of electricity to many <br />members homes who would have never <br />received central stlltlon electric service, <br />had it not been for "Mac's" strong belief <br />in the policy of Area Coverage. His <br />constant goal was to serve all of the <br />homes in the MVEA area who desired <br />electrical service In true electric co- <br />operativesDirlt. <br />At a meeting of the board of direc- <br />tors of the Mountain View Electric <br />Assn., September 18, 1961, A. C. "Jack" <br />Payne was appointed manager of the <br />assoctatlon effective Nov. 1, 1961, suc- <br />ceeding Ralph McMillan. <br />Payne haa been employed by the <br />rural electric cooperative since 1949, <br />when he st.arted as a bllllnfl' clerk. He <br />later was promoted to chief clerk, and <br />following this to office manager, and <br />to assistant manager in March 1960. <br />Jack is a graduate ()f East High <br />School in Denver; attended DenV'll: <br />University; and was a warrant Officer <br />in the U. S. Army, in World War: II. <br />He is a good community member, <br />having served all treasurer of the Limon <br />Community Recreation Board for six <br />years, is past adjutant of the American <br />Legion Post #49, past treasurer. of the <br />Limon Chamber of Commerce, current- <br />ly vice president of the Limon School <br /> <br /> <br />Payne Becomes Manager <br />Board, secretary of the .Limon Rotary <br />Club, and chairman of the finance and <br />stewardship committee of the _First <br />Methodist Church in Limon. <br />He was co-sponsor of the recent suc- <br />cessful petition to construct a Munici9al <br />Swimming Pool in Limon, and was one <br />of the original incorporators of the <br />Limon Community Recreation Board. <br />Jack, Mrs. Payne, daughters Sharon <br />and Sarah live at 550 I. Union <br />Telephone has negotiated a joint-use <br />agreement with Moon Lake on,right_of. <br />way and poles of Moon La.ke )!:Iectrje <br />from Dutch John to Greendale. <br /> <br />This Is Community <br />Cooperation Rural <br />Electrics Foster. <br /> <br />The welcome, mat was .really out In <br />Limon for' MVEA', Members at their <br />recent Annual Meeting. <br />The thickness of the welcome mat <br />became apparent when the local news <br />. media, the Limon Leader carried bar- <br />gains in several ads foc MVEA mem- <br />bers, and carried through and beyond <br />_a luncheon provided by the Limon <br />Chamber of Commerce for the Officers <br />and Directors.ofthe association. !twas <br />even noted that a "no parkill~" sign <br />was covered, allowing parking in a <br />block long restricted area in front of <br />the meeting place. <br />Signs "Welcome MVEA Members" <br />were evident in nearly every store <br />window in Limon. A movie "Parent <br />Trap" was enjoyed at the Lincoln <br />Theatre free by children of members <br />attending the, meeting through a spe- <br />cial to MVEA from Charles McCarthy, <br />owner and manager of the theatre. <br /> <br />Midwest Establishes <br />New Denver Offices <br />New' and permanent offices for the <br />. Plan to attend next year, and <br />bring a neighborl <br /> <br /> <br />October "Magic Month" For Light <br />And Power On New Moon Lake Lines <br /> <br />Ranchers near Baxter Pass in 'West- <br />ern Colorado are counting the days un- <br />til central station power reaches their <br />homes for t~e first time. Completion of <br />a distribution line from Bonanza, Utah <br />to Baxter Pass is expected early in <br />October. Contractors for Moon Lake <br />Electric Association are building the <br />line. <br />Moon Lake began construction early <br />in July, and expected to energize the <br />line on October 2nd. An additional sec- <br />tion of line connecting Baxter and <br />Douglas passes will be completed a few <br />weeks latel'. <br />In addition to ranches, two rectifier <br />installations of the American Gilsonite <br />Company, which protect their. pipeline <br />from harmful electrolysis,. will be <br />served. <br />The line extension to Douglis, Pass <br />will serve an FAA r:adar installation <br />and a telephone micro-wave relay sta- <br />tion. <br />The radar station, wl'len complete, <br />will have dwellings for operation and <br />maintenance crews in addition- to_ the <br />raclarstation. <br />It is anticipated that once power is <br />available at Baxter and Douglas passes <br />there will be a number of short-wave <br />radio stations and possibly some tele- <br />vision translators located there. <br />Construction of the line is proceeding <br />In two sections. Section A, from Bon- <br />anza to Baxter pass is under construc. <br />tion by the lrby Construction Co. of <br />Jackson Miss., and the s(!(!ti6n trom <br />Baxter Pass to D,ouglas Pass Is being <br /> <br />built by the I. O.
