Bill
Dobbs of San Miguel took the equip-
ment to Gunnison where the projeef
took place. He took a number of pic-
tures and also participated in the July
19 field day.
Details of the el'periment, which was
tor the purpose of comparing the arti.
ficial' dryIng of mountain meadow
grass with commercial field crops like
aUalfa and hay, are now being com.
plica by the college for later publica-
tion.
Much credit goes to the gcoup of men
who had' quite a time setting up a site
for the project to get near a power poll?
It was finally accomplished, although
it hlld to he on a hillside across the
highway and across the field' where
the hay was harvested. Special equip.
ment such as tractors and balers were
sent out by.the John Deere Co. of K<ln~
sas City, Mi:;souri.
One special feature of this experi-
mental project, was the fact that the
Aerovent fan was especially designed
for 8.9,000 ft. elevation, It would move
20,000 cubic feet of air per minute.
:Bill Dobbs reported that it was noted
that there was about 40% relative hu.
midity of the air going into the flln
!\nd 60.70% coming out of the stack
of hay. This varied because of 1he lo-
cation of Jpatruments along the stack.
But Jt picked out about 36% of the
humidity and the stack was cured in
4'11I days. The average power used was
80 KWH per day. .
No mountain meadow grass drying
was avalhtble anywhere, so this wes
another experiment to help with power

,
..'~

San Miguel Is In
Community Works
With All Energies
By Blanche Rucker
San Miguel Power AsSociation fur-
nish~ the public address sT-ltem for the
San Miguel Basin rodeo. held at Nor-
wood In August.
