<br /> <br />Fish and Wildlife <br /> <br /> <br />---~. <br /> <br /> <br />RejOining flock at wildlile refuge <br /> <br />Two national fish hatcheries are performing <br />important roles in the joint State-Federal <br />approach to meeting fish stocking require- <br />ments at CRSP reservoirs. <br /> <br />Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery: The <br />hatchery is located in a deep canyon on Jones <br />Hole Creek near Dinosaur National Monument <br />In northeastern Utah. In 1983, the hatchery <br />produced 176.328 pounds of fish. <br /> <br />Hotchkiss National Fish Hatchery: The <br />hatchery IS located on the north fork of the <br />Gunnison River near Hotchkiss, Colo, Its <br />output of 107,194 pounds of fISh went prinCI- <br />pally for stocking requirements of Blue Mesa, <br />Crawford. Lemon, Silver Jack Reservoirs in <br />Colorado, and Navajo Reservoir in Colorado <br />and New Mexico. <br /> <br />One national wildlife refuge and three water. <br />fowl areas under State administration are now <br />being developed <br /> <br />Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge: The <br />refuge lies along the Green River below Fon- <br />tenelle Dam, Wyo., and since 1966, has been <br />administered by the Fish and Wildlife Service. <br />Development of refuge lands is continuing <br />during the year. <br /> <br />20 <br /> <br /> <br />.. ...;' ~-~. <br />'~~:::.: ~~ ':;~~'"':l;' <br />~ <br />Fishing good at Soldier Creek's opening day <br /> <br />Brown's Park Waterfowl Management Area: <br />The area, under administration of the Utah <br />Division of Wildlife Resources, is located below <br />Flaming Gorge Reservoir on the Green River <br />near the Utah-Colorado State line. The overall <br />management area is attracting numerous <br />resident and migratory game bird populations <br />and is increasing in public popularity as a <br />fishing, hunting, and bird-watching area. <br /> <br />Miller Mesa Waterfowl Area: The area is on <br />the west shore of the Navajo Reservoir just <br />south of the Colorado-New Mexico State line. <br />A small reservoir and two terraced ponds have <br />been completed and filled. About 170 acres of <br />agricultural lands have been planted with <br />barley, oats, wheat, and alfalfa for wildlife <br />management purposes. Waterfowl use patterns <br />indicate that birds from other agricultural and <br />nesting areas in the San Juan Valley are uSing <br />the Miller Mesa site with increasing frequency, <br /> <br /> <br />Dangling Rope Marina, Lake Powell. <br /> <br />Desert lake Waterfowl Management Area: <br />The area comprises 2,480 acres of acquired <br />and public domain land in eastern Utah near <br />Huntington North Reservoir. Administered by <br />Utah Division of Wildlife Resources since <br />January 1968, the area's contribution to water. <br />fowl resources management was significantly <br />increased by rehabilitation to the historic <br />Desert Lake Dike and completion of five addi- <br />tional diked areas below the existing impound- <br />ment. ~ <br /> <br />A number of measures have been initiated to <br />mitigate fishery and big game losses caused <br />by the construction of CRSP features. <br />
