They feel however that since circular sprinkler systems will
be used and not gravity flow, that these lands could be considered
to be prime and that the 15,000 acre figure may in fact be low when
these lands and any prime. land wich may exist on Indian Lands are
considered,

Enclosed is the Important Farmlands Map for La Plata County prepared
by the Soil Conservation Service. On it are shown lands which
would become prime if irrigated (yellow). Drawn on this map are the
lands which would receive either supplemental or full irrigation
as a result of the Animas - La Plata Project. The intersection of
these two areas delineates areas which will become prime as a re-
sult of this project according to the Soils map. Although this area
appears to be somewhat less than the 12,000 to 13,000 acres Bureau
of Reclamation estimate, the Bureau feels that their estimate is
accurate since it was based upon extensive field checking.

:"

Please contact me if you feel I can be of any further assistance in
resolving any questions pertaining to this issue.

'.,

JRlsgh

...

Enclosure not attached

;,

1!.

,;'.

,;

H".

-..-
(,,~

~
N
~;
~:
we.
,
