<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />001142 <br /> <br />PART IV <br />OTHER HAZARD MITIGATION MEASURES <br /> <br />The fOllowing is a list of mitigation actions that were not <br />included in the Recommendations section for one or more of <br />the following reasons: the area of concern was adequately <br />covered and no opportunity for improvement existed; no con- <br />census could be reached on how the work element should be <br />stated; not enough time existed to adequately address the <br />action; the suggestion was furnished to the respective <br />assistance program staff; or the measure was a standard oper- <br />ating procedure. <br /> <br />1) that the adequacy of the current building codes <br />and land-use ordinances be evaluated with re- <br />spect to flood recovery; <br />2) that an on-going training program for all Hazard <br />Mitigation Team members (Federal and State) be <br />implemented; <br />3) that additional funding for Hazard Mitigation <br />activities be appropriated; <br />4) that standard floodproofing measures and actions <br />be used in the rebuilding of roads and bridges; <br />5) that all reconstruction dollars should summon <br />long-range planning desires; <br />6) that road-side and trail-side warnings of po- <br />tential dam failures be posted; <br />7) that all agencies concerned be aware that a wide <br />range of technical data, photographs, models, <br />interviews, chronologies, records, reports and <br />estimations is available from various agencies <br />that are investigating the dam failure and re- <br />sulting flood; <br />8) that state-of-the art debris rack technology <br />be investigated regarding cost-effectiveness; <br />and <br />9) that the Soil Conservation Service assistance <br />(sec. 216) for channel restoration in areas <br />where there is a threat to life and improved <br />property be pursued. <br /> <br />19 <br />
