.

.

now that the Upper Basin Compact has made the necessary division of water

a reality, I believe we have the answers, or most of th8m at least, in

the Colnrado River Storage Project and the irrigation projects participating

in its benefits.

The plan is not so difficult as it may appear. Generally it is

this: The parent project, or the Colorad0 River Storage Project proper,
tnvblves the construction ~f nine large dams and reservoirs on the main

river and principal tributaries in the Upper Basin. These reservoirs

would have a combined capacity of about 48 million acre-feet including

<-

capacity for silt encroachment.

The reservoirs tentatively selected are:

Echo Park belcw the junction of the Green and the

Yampa Rivers--subject to satisfactory disposition of the

National Monument and recreational problem.

Flaming Gorge on the Green River just above Echo Park reservoir.

Split Mountain on the Green River just below Edh6 Park reservoir,

Cross Mountain on the Yampa River above the Echo Park reservoir.

Grey Canyon on the Green River a short distance upstream from

I-"
r::')
I-"
-.1

Green River, Utah.

Bridgeport, Crystal, ard Curecanti reservoirs on the

Gunnison River.

Glen Canyon reservoir en the Colorado River just abave

Lee Ferry.

vlhile most of the dam sites for these reservnirs have been expl"red,

there may be sC'me substitutions or additions to these selections as

investigations are continued. Of immediate consideration ~()r inclusion

5
