<br />The Rio Grande River is expected to reach ?eak level and sustain that level for
<br />the next four to sIx days. City and County officials are monitoring the levees
<br />and bridges. Some precautionary measures are being taken and althoup,h there is
<br />no immediate danger to residents, SOme ~esidences may sustain some low level
<br />flooding.

<br />An audible warning system has been devised in case of an actual failure along
<br />the levees. This system will be the air raid siren. ~nlen activated it will
<br />be sounded for a prolonged period of time. Tune into local radio or TV news
<br />statiolls. In the event of an evacuation an emergency shelter has been
<br />~stablIshed at the Alamosa High School. Households that experience high wRter
<br />are advised to eo to the 2mergency shelter. People who may have to evacuate
<br />are advised to shut off all electrical power, turn off all propane or natural
<br />gas to the house, take a pre-packed bag of necessities (such as medicines,
<br />?ersonal toiletries and clothing for approximately two days). finally, when
<br />leaving the home, place a white cloth OIl outside doors or windows. This
<br />should be placed in a location clearly visible to emergency personnel as the
<br />white doth advises that the home has been vac"lted.

<br />In the event of an evacuation, persons ~ith special medical needs are advised
<br />to call Alamosa City/County Ambulance Services at 589-2882 or 589-5807.

<br />Alamosa County officials have ordered heavy loads restricted from County
<br />I.i ne Road.
<br />
<br />Sandbags are available at the City of Hamosa \,aterworks at 7th and Ross
<br />"nd can be picked up between the. hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Bags picked
<br />IIp but not being used must be rctur\led.
