.,

Walsenburg Water Treatment Plant
NPDES #CO-0020664
WQMP I.D. No. HU-ll

.

The Walsenburg Water Treatment Plant is located 0.2 miles east
of Walsenburg Reservoir. The plant pretreats the raw water with
aluminum sulfate and charcoal prior to rapid sand filtration
and chlorination. The existing plant (summer 1974) produces
from 1.3 to 2.3 mgd of potable water while the new plant is de-
signed for a capacity of 4.0 mgd. The rapid sand filters are
periodically backwashed during the day and the wash water is
discharged to either Martin Lake or a drainage ditch. The water
that flows to the ditch passes through a low swampy area east of
the plant before reaching the Cucharas River.

.
I

.

AGUILAR PUBLIC HOUSING PROJECT

.

I.
