<br />CHAPTER III <br /> <br />RESULTS OF A~ALYSIS <br /> <br />The res~lta of analysis of the climatological data for <br />the period March I, 1951 to June I, 1951, during the cloud~ <br />seeding operations over north oentral Colorado are presented <br />in the following discussion. <br /> <br />Precipitation ~ ~ Target ~ <br /> <br />In the statistical study of the mean depth of precipitation <br />on the target area the following results were obtained. In <br />each case the month or group of months was compared to the <br />forty-year normal for that month or group, and the probability <br />of that occurrence being equaled or exceeded was calculated <br />from the charts so plotted. It further showS that in <br />approximately three out of every four years the March rain- <br />fall has exceeded that of 11arch, 19.51. Considering the whole <br />March-April-May period, the 19.51 depth of 4.36 inches is <br />less than the 40-year normal of 5.40 inches. In two out of <br />every three years the natural rainfall has exceeded that for <br />the 1951 cloud-seeding period. The rainfall for May, 19.51, <br />slightly exceeded the normal, however two years out of five <br />are naturally wetter than May, 19.51. <br /> <br />-, <br /> <br />The forty- and fifteen~year secular series studies of <br />mean depth of precipitation on the target area revealed that <br />the l1arch, April, and Mayl;rends are relatively insignificant, <br />see Figs. 2, 4 and 6; whereas, for the s~~ation of the three <br />months, the forty-year trend is 0.0111 inches per year upward <br />and the fifteen_year trend is 0.0611 inches per ~rear upward. <br />Both of these trends can be considered significant, see Fig. 8 <br />and Tables 14 and 15. The moving ten-year secular series <br />study for the summation of the three months, see Fig. 10 and <br />Table 16, revealed a possib.l.e cyclic trend, which indicates <br />the oresence of a series of wet Spring pGrlods. and u signi:li.cant <br />overall upward trend of 0.0134 inches per year. <br /> <br />(.; <br /> <br />~ <br />c.~ <br /> <br />.5 <br />
