The entire biology committee will review the draft model reports. <br /> <br />Based upon a preliminary review of the available information within the San Juan and the <br />knowledge about existing bioenergetic models, population estimates of the prey base (native <br />species) for Colorado squawfish are needed. During 1998, population estimates will be made <br />for the native fish community in the San Juan selected sub-reaches of three geomorphic reach <br />3, 4, and 5. <br /> <br />In addition, production and biomass estimates for primary producers (periphyton) and <br />secondary consumers (macroinvertebrates) will be made on a monthly basis within riffles and <br />runs for each of the three reaches where fish population estimates will be obtained. These <br />lower trophic levels represent the food base for these native fishes. The data will be <br />incorporated into the bioenergetics and habitat-based models. <br /> <br />An exhaustive literature review will be undertaken to specifically define population <br />parameters of the rare fish needed for the population-based models.
