~-;t<
'<::!"
c.")
C\J

.

.

irrigated are plagued with late season water short~ses that prevent

full crop production. Increasingly limited grazing per~its cn

nearby public lands are restricting livestock herds, and unless

additional farm-grown feeds can be obtained the livestock industry

will be effectively stalemated.

This project would regulate the flows of the North Fork

of the White River and tributaries of the Y~?pa River to provide

an average of 117,200 acre-feet of water annually at points of

diversion. About 61,700 acre-feet would be used to irrigate 23,610

acres of class 2 and 3 land, including 19,920 acres not presently

irrigated and 3, 690 acres in need of addi tional ~la tor. The

remaining 55,500 acre-feet would be used for municipal purposes,

including a domestic water system for the Upper ~lliite River Basin,

and by oil shale and other industries expected to develop in the

area. Important benefits to flood control, recreation and fish

and wildlife conservation would be provided.

Project features include 3 storage reservoirs with a

total usable capacity of 55,000 acre-feet. Siz~~le minimu~ pools

for recreation are provided for in each reservc,ir. 'I'hree nain

canals with lengths of 12, 31 and 36 miles respectively, would

convey the water to project lands. A small pumping plant and dis-

tribution lateral would deliver water to se','~r21 hnnd:::-e-:1 acres of

land on benches above the gravity canals.

-2-
