Mouth-watering apples, peaches, cherries, and apricots
grown in the area are famous throughout the nation. Hay and grain
raised on irrigated lands provide feed in winter for cattle that graze
on nearby mountain ranges in the summer. Some local industry has
developed to process the crops, but most of the fruit and livestock are
shipped out. A more stable water supply would stabilize the agricultural
economy and encourage more processing plants.
The Bureau of Reclamation built the present Fruitgrowers Dam at
Harts Basin in 1937 to replace one that failed the year before.

Apple harvest in the Cedaredge area

- .~., .-- ,--". .... ~... _. 0"," - ...~ ...._.___.___~__ "___"_~~_.T__'e .__"_'_~.
