If the Committees make their head- <br /> <br />quarters in this Office, I c&n furnish stenographers and probably the <br /> <br /> <br />Interior Department can furnish a stenographer over there. <br /> <br /> <br />This afternoon and tomorrow morning Hill be devoted to Committee <br /> <br />work and tomorrow afternoon we will have the public hearing which I <br /> <br />do not think will take any great length of time. <br /> <br />Mr. NorvLel. I think it proper that I complete my statement. As <br /> <br />I said in the beginning, Arizona is very much interested in this <br /> <br />matter, and not knoHing Vlhat angle this meeting might take, I would <br /> <br />like at this time to read the statement 1'Ihich I have prepared. I do <br />not more than simply submit this for your consideration. (Reading) <br /> <br />"WHEREAS the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, <br />New MeXico, Utah and Hyoming, being either Hithih or partially witl1in <br />the basin. of and each claiming an interest in the waters of Colorado <br />River and (or) its tributaries, and <br /> <br /> <br />"WHERE.i\S, the legislatures of the several states have each <br />authorized the appointment of a representative of the state by the <br />Governor of each of said states, and the Congress of the United States <br />has authorized the appointment of a representative of the United <br />States by the President, to form a .Commission for the purpose of <br />negotiating a compact or agreement between the said states, and <br />between the said states and the United States, respecting the use <br />and distribution of the Haters, and the benefits to be derived from <br />the utilization of the waters of the said Colorado River and its <br />tributaries, and <br /> <br />"WHEREAS, . all of said representatives having been so appointed by <br />the respective governors of the said states, and by the President of <br />the United States, and all being present, now, therefore, be it, <br /> <br />"RESCLVED that the name of this Commission shall be and hereafter <br />shall be called the COLO&iDO RIVER CO~WISSION, <br /> <br />"WHEREAS, the purpose of the organization of the Colorado River <br />Commission is to determine the relative rights of the said states and <br />of the United States, and the citizens thereof, in and to Colorado <br />River and its tributaries and to tho use and the benefits derived from <br />the utilization of the waters thereof; to establish and fix a policy <br />and regulations to govern the further development of the river. <br />
