lowcr than it was on that day one year previously. The Nirage Flats Irri-
gation District will announce to their water users in t,he spring the amount
of water that will be available from Box Butte storage. The project water
supply is expected to be inadequate in 1976 as it has been in past years.
The district plans, however, for the irrigators to continue the use of
The water supply for 33,960 acres with service available in the Ainsworth
Irrigation District is provided by Merritt Reservoir storag-=. and Snake River
flows. To avoid ice damage to tlle soil cement on the upstream face of
t'1erritt Darn during the winter months, releases from Merritt Reservoir are
regulated to maintain .:1 w~lter level about 5 feet belo\\" the top of th2 con-
sel-'va tioll capaci ty. When. the reservoir surface clears of 1,:12 each slJ~' il'l.g,
the conservation capacity is slowly filled. This operation gr0.atly e.nhances
the spring spawning of fish.
