<br />the project area with an approximate ,gross area of 34,320 acres, contains <br /> <br />about 19,355 acres of non-irrigable lands which are mostly found in small <br /> <br />mesas and rocky knolls and ridges, but with some considerable area of <br /> <br />arable lands that cannot be reached by. the proposed distribution system; <br /> <br />9,451 acres of;;ne\~ lands, irrigable but not now under ditch; and. s-&me <br /> <br />5,534 acres of land now only inadequately irrigated; some of which, while <br /> <br />under ditch, receive almost no water at all, and none of which at.present <br /> <br />receives more than an insUfficient supply of flood water. <br /> <br />History <br /> <br />The Valleci to Dam and Reservoi:i", which will serve the Irrigation District <br /> <br />and the proposed project, which is a part of the District, is only just <br />being completed.(rt has been dedicateo. but some finishing work remains.) <br /> <br />This reservoir has a usable storage capacity of 126,000 acre-feet. It <br /> <br /> <br />is estimated that approximately the same ~~ount will be further provided <br /> <br />by natural stream. flow of the river, thus making 252,000 acre-feet avail- <br /> <br />able for irrigation. The Bureau of Reclamation is checking these figures. <br /> <br />When the proposed project is completed this would serve a total develop- <br /> <br />ment of 69,000 irrigable acres within the Irrigation District. !r 3 acre- <br /> <br />re~s allotted per acre this will allow a surplus of 45,OOO'.acre-f!3et <br /> <br /> <br />for seepage and evaporation losses and for the possible further development <br /> <br />,of' small scattered units not now included in any plans, and none of whfuch <br /> <br />would be within the proposed project.
