<br />One of the communities does not have a current water quality problem. It <br />will, however, have to resort to an alternate water supply in the near future <br />and the only new source of water is brackish and therefore suitable for puri- <br />fication by desalting techniques. <br /> <br />The following paragraphs provide brief descriptions of the selected com- <br />munities: <br /> <br />Brighton <br /> <br />As of 1970, this community has an estima~ed 138 commercial and 7 industri- <br />al establishments. The 1960 population census figure was 7,055 and 1970 figure <br />was 8,309. Future population statistics have been predicted based on a projec- <br />ted growth rate of 3.0 percent per annum. <br /> <br />The present water source for Brighton is a series of 10 wells from 35 to <br />66 feet deep in the South Platte River alluvium. The overall winter-summer <br />range of daily water usage for 1969 was 0.8 - 8.1 MGD. The estimated capacity <br />for this present' water system is 13 MGD. There is existing elevated storage <br />capacity for 1.2 million gallons for treated water in the water system east of <br />town. Commercial and industrial establishments run using water meters, but <br />residential connections are unmetered. <br /> <br />Ft. Lupton <br /> <br />As of 1970, this community has an estimated 83 commercial and 6 industrial <br />establishments. The 1960 population census figure was 2,194 and 1970 figure <br />was 2,489. Future population statistics have been predicted based on a projec- <br />ted growth rate of 1.9 percent per annum. <br /> <br />The present water source for Ft. Lupton is a series of 4 wells from 48 to <br />53 feet deep in the South Platte River alluvium. The overall winter-summer <br />range of daily water usage for 1969 was 0.3 - 2.7 MGD. The estimated capacity <br />for this present water system is 4 MGD. There is an existing elevated storage <br />tank of 100,000 gallon capacity in the water system. Water supplied to com- <br />mercial and industrial establishments is metered, but water to residential cus- <br />tomers is unmetered. <br /> <br />Ft. Morgan <br /> <br />As of 1970, this community has an estimated 132 commercial and 19 indus- <br />trial establishments. The 1960 population census figure was 7,379 and 1970 <br />figure was 7,594. Future population statistics have been predicted based on a <br />projected growth rate of 1.0 percent per annum. <br /> <br />16 <br />
