For
this purpose, what is known as the Jaroso Garden Tracts.
were laid out mostly in five acre tracts.
As the years went on it developed that it
was not feadble to bring watel' hom the Culebra RiveI'
to irrigate the lands in this .Taroso colony. There were
two reasons for this as follows.
" ~lrst, the Culebra SUpply proved to be 1n-
adequat~.; and,; (tc,'<".~._. _"'-. Under their advice, the Sanohez Reservoir
was constructed to a total capacity of 104,000 acre feet.
After allowance for carriage loss and on the basis of
1.$ acre feet of water for each acre of land, the engineers
advised that the company could safely sell 00,000 acres
of land from t.'le CUlebra source.
Actually, weter contractsw~reissuedfor
SOllIe 35,000 acres from the CUlebra.
It then developed that the water supply

,

-14-
