N
~,
en
01

To evaluate possible future salinity levels, a
number of water supply conditions and three future
depletion rates, developed by the Work Group, are being
considered. Four water supply levels -- virgin flows
of 12, 13, 14, and 15 million acre-feet per year at Lee
Ferry -- and three future depletion rates -- low, moderate
and high -- are to be used.

The individual states have made estimates of future

water use for the period 1980 through 1995 for the three

future depletion rates and by the various categories of

use. Modifications to the WPRS's salt routing model are

in progress to accommodate the new salt load versus flow

relationships and changes in Lake Powell.

Baseline Values

Baseline values are a relationship between salt load

and flow at selected sites. There is no intent to make

baseline values standards nor are they to be considered
or interpreted as standards for salinity.

The 1975 Forum report called for the development of

baseline values for monitoring points on the mainstemand
major tributaries as part of the process of identifying
and evaluating changes in river salinity. The baseline
values will be used to assess the effects of development,

-37-

,',

,li.,,'~4il
