H.G. BERTHELSON

He will do his graduate work on Colorado water, jlamely, transmountain diversions from the
western slope to Denver.

Now, this great and expensive effort to get more water for metropolitan use is something that
really needs our attention. It has long since been overdone. Even a dumb rancher, there may not be
any other kind but for the sake of emphasis I will use it, knows that you can put too many sheep in a
band or too many cattle in a pasture. Under such conditibns the strong ones do alright but the weak
ones suffer. This same lesson can be applied to people so why does our society provide for or condone
the bunching of so many people in one place? You get the water and then you get the people and then
the metropolitan area has troubles: air pollution, public transportation, schools, welfare and a multi-
tude of others. Surely this advanced society of ours can : figure out a better way for people to live.

The moral to this story is shut the water off. Thi~ will disperse the people.

.

-20-
