An appropriate sign perpetuates this bit of <br />Americana for posterity. <br /> <br />7. Cooperative Studies and Activities: <br />laJ Article VIII G (1) of Arkansas River Compact requires the <br />Administration to cooperate with the Chief Official of each of <br />the states of Colorado and Kansas charged with the ad- <br />ministration of water rights in their respective States, and with <br />the Federal agencies in systematically determining and <br />correlating the facts pertaining to the flow and diversion of the <br />water of the Arkansas River and to the operation and siltation of <br />John Marlin Reservoir and other related slnlctures. Article VIII <br />G (2) requests the Director of the United States Geological <br />Survey, the Commissioner of the United States Bureau of <br />Reclamation, and the Chief of the Engineers, United States <br />Anny, to cooperate and collaborate with the Administration and <br />with appropriate State officials in such determinations and <br />correlations of stream now and related data. Under the By- <br />Laws of the Administration, these cooperative studies and ~c- <br />tivities are assigned to the Engineering Commillee of .the <br />Administration. <br />(b) During the year covered by this report the Administration has <br />received excellent cooperation from all agencies referred to in <br />the foregoing provisions of the Compact. The United Slates <br />Geological Survey has continued the operation of the compact <br />gaging stations and the analysis and compilation of the <br />hydrologic data presented in this report and used in the ad- <br />ministration of the Compact. The Corps of Engineers continued <br />to operate the conservation pool of John Martin Reservoir in <br />accordance with the terms of the Compact and the orders of the <br />Administration. <br /> <br />8. Water Supply, Reservoir Operation, and HydrologiC Data <br />During Compact Year 1976, the Amity Mutual Irrigation Company <br />developed a proposal to store its adjudicated Great Plains Reservoir <br />slorage rights in John Marlin Reservoir. This proposal was presented <br />to the Compact Commission and was enthusiastically adopted by the <br />Commission after a few minor alterations. The final agreement <br />allowed the Amity to store up to 15,000 acre feel of its Great Plains <br />storage rights in John Martin during the 1977 Compact Year heginning <br />November I, 1976. Under terms of the agreement, the Amity storage <br />waler was defined as the amount of water actually delivered 10 John <br />Martin Reservoir by the Amity minus evaporation tosses. The Amity <br />water could only be delivered after the compact water in the con- <br />servation pool was evacuated and was apportioned 90% to Colorado <br />and 10% to Kansas.
