There is no significant relationship between the <br />role of vegetation as a beach stabilizer and the magnitude of <br />daily discharge fluctuations. <br /> <br />Justification: One at the factors appearing to stabilize the <br />camping beaches is vegetation which has established on the <br />beach taces as well as other beach surtaces. This <br />vegetative cover is impacted by river discharges (especially <br />on the beach lace), human activity, and other environmental <br />factors. Stability ot the beach surfaces may vary depending <br />on how the vegetation responds to the influencing factors; <br />the beach face may be the most critical surface relative to <br />persistence of riverside alluvial deposits. In addition, <br />ecological feedback between dam operations, depositional <br />processes and vegetation may influence both beach stability <br />and riparian vegetation. <br /> <br />Inforaation Heeds: Information developed to test hypotheses <br />~-l.l and H.-2.l will be used, in part, to test this <br />hypothesis. In addition, on the study beaches, locations ot <br />vegetation, on the beach tace and other surtaces, will be <br />selected to Measure their resistance to erosional loss as <br />well as the erosional loss at sand and other sedi~ents they <br />stabilize. Resistance to erosion will be related to <br />vegetation composition, cover and density. Paired locations <br />with no vegetation will be used for co=parison. <br /> <br />The followinq are secondary hypotheses that will be tested <br />under the research program that will test ~-2.2. <br /> <br />~-2.2a. There is no significant relationShip between the <br />role at veqetation as a beach stabilizer and the magnitUde of <br />daily discharge fluctuations. <br /> <br />a.-2.2b. There is no significant relationship between the <br />continuinq invasion of exotic Tamarix rAmnaissima and Alhaai <br />camelorum and flows resultinq from variations in dam diSCharges. <br /> <br />3.
