(~
r-
-
o
"_-:)
~)

CHAPTER II

DESCRIPTION OF ALTERNATIVES

added to control the canal water surface elevation. Existing O&M roads
would be replaced. The design flow for the Stubb Ditch would be
approximately 20 cfs. The pipe size would vary from 24 to 42 inches in
diameter. Concrete pipe would be used for 30 to 42 inch portions of the
pipeline, and PVC pipe would be used for diameters ranging from 24 to 27
inches.

There would be three places where Reclamation would deviate from the
existing Stubb Ditch alignment; all located just west of the Clifton 1-70
interchange.

Price Ditch Construction Activities.--The Price Ditch would be filled in
and recontoured to meet the existing ground to the extent that fill
material is readily available in the immediate vicinity of the ditch.
Portions of the existing rights-of-way would be used for the additional
lateral replacement. All concrete removed would be buried at approved
sites.

Additional Lateral Reolacement.--Preliminary designs of this alternative
found that nearly all of the districts' laterals served by the East End
Government Highline Canal and the laterals within the PID service area,
would need to be replaced and enlarged due to the new hydraulic conditions
created by removing the Price Ditch. There are approximately 87 miles of
laterals in these two areas, 36 of which are currently improved. As part
of the Grand Valley Unit, the unimproved 51 miles were scheduled for
improvement. Under the combination alternative, the additional 36 miles of
existing improvements would also be replaced.

Pumoino Plant.--With the removal of the Price Ditch, water could no longer
be dropped through the price-Stubb Pumping Plant. Consequently, a new
electrically driven plant would be installed. The plant would need to
deliver a peak of 22 cfs at a total dynamic head of about 35 feet. The
resulting plant would be about 120 horsepower. Every effort would be made
to use the existing piping from the existing pumping plant to the Stubb
Ditch.

Fish and Wildlife Measures

Fish and Wildlife measures were not q~antified for this alternative but
would consist of acquiring and developing lands to replace lost habitat.

Price and Stubb Ditch Cross-Drainaoe and Tailwater Desions

Cross-drainage and tailwater designs would be the same as for the
recommended plan. However, all tailwater that formerly returned into the
Price Ditch would have to be routed to the nearest natural drain.

Safety Features

Safety features along the Price Ditch would no longer be required with this
alternative.

13
