CS663 was
captured by angling and implanted with a transmitter at RM 95.5 on 29 August 1996.
During the next two months CS663 was located seven times by ground crews including
one 24 hour observation. CS663 periodically swam upstream until early October when it
was located more than seven miles upstream from the point where it was originally
captured, By late October, CS663 had moved back downstream to a pool 0.5 river miles
upstream from it's point of capture (Figures 9 and 10), During the course of this study,
CS663 traveled nearly 14 river miles. This fish was only located by ground crews in pool
habitats, however during the course of this study CS663 moved through numerous riffles,
runs and one diversion, the Patrick Sweeney Diversion, and shallow riffles during some
of the lowest mean daily flows recorded during 1996 (Figure 10).

A 24 hour observation on CS663 was conducted on 9 October 1996 at RM 102.4. CS663
was mostly inactive during daylight hours, however during the night the fish became very
active (Figure I I), The fish repositioned itself several times within the same pool, and at
times was observed cruising in the pool at a speed similar to a fast walking pace.

Yampa River Radio Telemetry Report
Miller Ecological Consultants, Inc.

Page 13
January 23, 1997
