c-'J
,'"'
00
C! useful in determining the project requirEment. The project canals

only are included in the table, for lanes outside the project have

senior WAter rights nominal in amount qnd largely supplied by return

flow from project and other land and the flow of the lower tributaries.

The individual diversions by project canals for the same years are

plotted on Plate 2, in reverse of their order on the stream.

The circumstances governing diversion during the years

shown in Table 3 were:

,

1929 - Latest frost date of record caused late start of irrigation,
and high runoff of short duration, preventing large diversion
by Divide Creek Highline and Porter. West Divide Creek and
Multi Trina divsrted more of both flow and return water than
usual. Late summer flow about qverage, spring rainfall normal.

1930 - Warmer spring than 1929, irrigation started early owing to
expected subnormal runoff. With about average runoff, and a dry
summer all ditches diverted more than in previous year. Summer
flow low, return water higher. No excess spring rainfall.

1931 - In anticipation of low runoff irrigation started April 20,
with most of flood in May. Summer flow well sustained for so
dry a year. Excess rainfall in April and September, other months
very dry. ,

1932 - Long high flood, but low return flow after 1931,
diversions by upper ditches, low diversions by Multi
upper ditches started late although spring was warm.
deficient in spring, and summer flow low.

led to high
Trina. The
Rainfall

1933 - Warm spring with expected shortage and irrigation started
early. Very low summer flow and reduced return flow cut diver-
sion s by West Divide Creek and Multi Trina. More than average
precipitation in spring, almost none in summer.

1934 - Extremely hot spring with excess rainfall in April, May and
June, which with rain in August furnished most of supply. Irriga-
tion startod April 1. Driest year ef record allover region.

29

:1
1
