LAND AND SO IIS

All land on the project has been mar-ped and classified by

forces of the Bureau of Recl~tion working under the provisions of

Section 15 ef the Boulder Canyon Project Act. The examination of

undeveloped areas includes mapping of the land, its classification

by inspection of the soil at the surface and at depth, and the

measurement of the total content and kind of mineral salts in the

soil. Mr. W. W. JOhnston, Reclamation Economist, made the classifica-

tion of the project land.

The standards of classification applied were:

Irrigated Land: Fields which lliave been irrigated, even
though the supply was inadequate for most of the time,
are classed as irrigated without regard to soil Quality.
In same cases irrigated meadow or pasture are so deSig-
nated in contrast to other irrigated land.
