SUBJECT: EXPLORATION OF FOUNDATION AND BORROW MATERIALS FOR WHITE RIVER
2-A DAM SITE,.UINTAH COUNTY

Attached to this memorandum are maps illustrating the locatioris of
proposed drill holes and test pits, along with access routes to them, for
the White River 2-A dam site. The locations with respect to land ownership
are-also.shown.

.....

Since the spillway.for the dam is now tentatively planned for the north.
(right) abutment, and because of the abrupt escarpment there, I have Rroposed
three drill holes here. These holes will be inclined approximately 500 from
horizontal in southerly and southwesterly direction. The depths or lengths
will be between 250-400 feet, with a diameter no larger than NX (3-inch).

At the south (left) abutment I propose two inclined .core holes, 500
from horizontal, approximately. 200 feet deep of NX diameter be drilled in a
northerly direction. .as shown on the detail map.

Along the crest. of the dam near the centerline of the dam on the north
and south sides of the White River I propose two vertical drill .holes
approximately 100 feet deep. These holes should include.standard penetration.
tests with a split-tube sampler, and if possible Dennison core samples at
least 4 inches ~n diameter, within the alluvium. Bedrock drilling can be
done with NX size coring bits.

Access to the drill sites on top of the escarpments at both abutments
can be reached with very little difficulty from existing roads, and by about
~ quarter mile of additional off-road travel for each abutment. This is
illustrated on one of the attached maps. . However, there is a relatively
steep rise on each of these proposed accesses that will require all-wheel
drive on the drilling rig truck. Otherwise, a short pull by caterpillar may
be needed at these two places. No bulldozing will be needed, but a few rocks
at the north abutment will need to be pryed out of the way by crowbar.
