20

The wide range between the minimum and maximum is caused by variations
in climatic conditions, particularly the amount of precipitation. It should
be noted that the maximum and the minimum estimated requirement is the max-
imum or minimum for a particular month of the 15-year period. Thus, the
max imum monthly requ irements for the Fulton Ditch occurred as follows,
April 1955, May 1954, June 1956, July 1~52, August 1948, Sep~~~~er 1956,
and October 1956. Table B shows water requirement. for the 17 canals as
estimated by the Bureau of Reclamation for the l~-year study period.

.

ruble B. Water re<.;uired for groundwater recharge is
also not included.

,

The total ostimated supply includes water diverted and used dire~tly
[or irrigation, wo1.er rele!Jsed from stor~ge reservoirs for irrigation and
water pumped from groundwater sourcf.)S under each canal system.

Estimated canal headgJte requirements and the total estimated supply
as explained in the foregoing are shown in Table 9.

The total average annual supply for the 17 canals was estimated to
be 450,400 acre-feet as compared with the total annual average canal
hoadgate requirement of 383,900 acre-feet. This indicates the total supply
exceeded the requirements by an average annual amount of 61,500 acre-feet.

The sum of the maximum, minimu"" and the 9-year Range would be mis-
leading bec"use these amounts generally did not occur during the Same
years for all canals.
