<br />, <br /> <br />"G41 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Upper Republican - Refers to a culture characterized by small permanent <br />villages that is believed to have centered in the Upper Republican <br />River Valley of northwestern Kansas and southwestern Nebraska. <br />This society may have extended into Colorado. <br /> <br />Ventilation corridor - Permits air to flow through without establishing <br />whirlwinds. <br /> <br />Visit - A significant amount of time spent by one individual at a <br />particular recreation facility during a 24-hour period. <br /> <br />Visitor-day - Consists of 12 visitor hours which may be aggregated con- <br />tinuously, intermittently, or simultaneously by one or more <br />persons at s recreation facility. <br /> <br />Water riRht - A grant, permit, decree, appropriation, or claim to the <br />use of water for beneficial purposes, limited by the economical <br />use and subject to other rights of older date of use, called <br />priority, or prior appropriation. <br /> <br />Weir - An overflow structure built across a channel to measure the rate <br />of flow of water. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Western slope - That portion of Colorado lying west of the Continental <br />Divide. The primary area of construction and impact of the <br />Fryingpan-Arkansas Project is located in the Fryingpan and Roaring <br />Fork River drainages. <br /> <br />Wingwalls - Retaining walls extending from a structure to hold back <br />the embankment. <br /> <br />Woodland Franketown Focus - A refinement of the Plains Woodland <br />Tradition or cultural type characterized mainly by evidence of <br />ceramic pottery. These people were probably related to the village <br />dwelling horticultural peoples of the woodland areas to the east. <br /> <br />Wye - Where a pipe, penstock, or water conveyance structure splits to <br />form the shape of a "y". <br /> <br />Zonal soils - Those soils with mature profiles developed under specific <br />conditions of climate and vegetation. <br /> <br />Zoned earth dam - A rolled-fill dam consisting essentially of an inner <br />or enclosed impervious section supported by two or more outer <br />sections of relatively pervious material. <br /> <br />Zooplankton - Animals occurring in the plankton (q.v.). <br /> <br />. <br />
