This policy was approved by the EPA (Envi ronmental Protection <br />Agency) on June 9, 1972. The Administrator of the EPA and the Secretary <br />of Agricultu~e were directed to cooperate and coordinate their activities <br />with the Secretary of the Interior to effectively carry out the objectives . <br />of the program. <br /> <br />The Secretary of the Interior was also directed to construct four authorized <br />salinity control units. The four were the Paradox Valley Unit, Colorado; <br />the Grand Valley Unit, Colorado; the Crystal Geyser Unit, Utah; and the <br />Las Vegas Was~ Unit, Nevada. Funds were included in the Public Works <br />Appropriation'Act of 1975 for the start of advance planning activities on <br />these four units. <br /> <br />In addition, the Secretary was directed to expedite completion of planning <br />reports for the following units: <br /> <br />1. Irrigation source control: <br /> <br /> <br />Lower Gunnison Basin, Colorado <br />Uinta Basin, Utah <br />Coloradb River Indian Reservation, Ari20na <br />Palo Verde Irrigation District, California <br /> <br />2. Point source control: <br /> <br />LaVerkin Springs, Utah <br />Littlefield Springs, Arizona <br />Glenwood-Dotsero Springs, Colorado <br /> <br />3. Di ffu5esource control: <br /> <br />Price River, Utah <br />San Ra'fael -River, Utah <br />Dirty Devil River, Utah <br />McElmo Creek, Colorado <br />Big Sandy River, Wyoming <br /> <br /> <br />In addition to the. above studies, Meeker Dome, Colorado, and Saline Water <br />Use and Disposal Opportunities Units were added later for planning study. <br />See figure 1 for the location of the above units. <br /> <br />Reclamation was ;delegated the coordinating role for the Secretary of the <br />Interior, and t~e Chief, Colorado River Water Quality Office, was appointed <br />as the designat~d salinity control liaison officer for Interior. As liaison <br />officer, he coor'dinates the overall salinity control program with USDA <br />(Department of ~griculture), EPA, the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control <br />Advisory Council., and the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum. <br /> <br />The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) and the USDA study locations are shown <br />on figure 2.
