For information regarding the status of particular USDA units, refer
to the USDA 1983 Annual Report, Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program.

A summary of the potential capabilities of the various units to remove salt,
the amount of salt removed by operating units, and the associated effects at
Imperial Dam are shown in table 1. Backup data is available in the Colorado
River Water Quality Office.

Completed and Operating

Grand Valley Unit, Stage One

The Government High1ine Canal lining, Government High1ine Lateral replace-
ments, and the moss and debris removal structure are substantially complete.
Hydrologic and fish and wildlife monitoring in the area are continuing.
Monitored results confirmed the removal effect of 14,200 tons per year based
on Reclamation facilities in place.

Implementation of USOA onfarm activities has been underway in Grand Valley
since 1979. For 1982, SCS personnel estimated the salt reduction in the
entire Grand Valley area, including Stage One, to be 17,700 tons. . The
monitoring program was initiated on several farms and will be expanded as
funding levels increase.

Meeker Dome Unit

During verficiation studies, the abandoned Scott, James, and Marland Oil
Wells were cleaned and plugged. The monitoring program was started in
October 1981 to test results of the plugging, and the results remain favorable.
The monitoring indicates that the water levels in the ground-water observation
we 115 have dropped' 5 i gnifi cant 1y, confi rmi ng that the well 1 eakage has stopped.
A Preliminary Findings Report on results of the studies to date was completed.
A final report is scheduled for June 1985, after monitoring has been completed.

Authorized and/or Under Construction

Grand Valley Unit, Stage Two

Data collection for the Stage Two area is continuing. Design data collection
is underway on the West End Government High1ine Canal and laterals, the first
facilities scheduled for construction under Stage Two.
