t--
C.:
lot')

,-
-

Historic stream inflows and forecasted inflows for both Gurley and Cone Reservoirs were used

as water supply input to the model. Historic streamflows were used to evaluate the long-term

capabilities of the system while forecasted inflows were used to evaluate water supply

conditions for the upcoming season. Information gathered during irrigator interviews,

conducted in September 1989 in Norwood, was used to develop irrigated acreage, crop type,

irrigation method, and share ownership input data for each of 151 unique land parcels in the

service area. Acreages, crop type, and irrigation methods data were used to develop irrigation

water demands. Soils data were developed from SCS soils maps and soil surveys. Plate 1

shows a map of the service area with the Gurley and Cone system facilities identified and with

land parcels delineated and numbered.

The following is a description of the steps used in the operation model for each monthly time

step. Figure 2 shows a flow diagram of the major steps used in the model. Stream inflows are

read into the model and distributed to shareholders based on each shareowner's percentage of

total ditch company shares. Net crop consumptive use for each parcel is read and the at-

reservoir crop demands computed by the following relationship:

COres = L.Q CUned1.O - .30 (1.0-eft)) ffil (1.12)
eff 12

WHERE:

COres

=

at-reservoir crop demands in acre-feet

CUnet

=

net crop consumptive use in inches for the parcel

eff

=

irrigation method efficiency
(flood = 0.45; sprinkler = 0.70)

A

=

irrigated acreage of the parcel

8
