<br />Status of Salinity Control Activities <br /> <br />Bureau of Reclamation <br /> <br />o <br />w <br />c.o <br />to <br /> <br />Construction of the salinity projects authorized by <br />Title II of P.L. 93-320 or their equivalents is necessary to <br /> <br />maintain salinity in the lower mainstem of the Colorado River <br /> <br />at or below the 1972 levels while the Basin states continue <br /> <br />to develop their compact-apportioned waters. <br /> <br /> <br />Paradox Valley Unit - The brine inflow control program <br /> <br /> <br />as proposed has been tested and verified. The brine disposal <br /> <br />plan using deep well injection has been evaluated and is <br /> <br />considered the most cost-effective disposal alternative. On <br /> <br />August 3, a notice of award and notice to proceed with work <br /> <br />on additional collection wells and brine pipeline extensions <br /> <br />were issued to Nielsons, Inc., of Cortez, Colorado. Work is <br /> <br />scheduled to be completed by January 3, 1983. Also in the <br /> <br />process is the awarding of contracts to oversee the deep well <br /> <br />injection. <br /> <br />Specifications for constructing and testing the <br /> <br />injection wells are presently being prepared, and a contract <br /> <br />will be awarded in June 1983. The project as being planned <br /> <br />will cause no significant environmental impact. <br /> <br />Construction funding for the Paradox Valley Unit for FY <br />1982 is $2,286,996.
