(:~~,,,
~.;. .':,[J
"'1(.::,,'.-

w
w
t:)
QQ

.~.. .," ...
,,:";..

",.".,

Wetland IMPacts ,
It is estimated that implementation of the 214 salinity contracts
will result in the loss of 3.1 acres of type 1 and 2 wetland. To
date, 1.5 acres of wetland type 1 and 2 has actually been lost.
However, 36.9 acres of new wetland construction is planned in
contracts on upland sites to replace these losses. Constructed
wetlands will be a complex of type 3,4 and 5 bordered by type 1 and 2.
A net gain of 33.8 acres of wetland is expected. Of the 50.1 acres of
shallow water development shown in table 3, 13.2 acres will be
constructed in existing wetland and the remaining 36.9 acres built in
upland. In addition to the created 36.9 acres of wetland, 268.5 acres
of existing type 1,2,3,4.5,6 and 9 wetland will be enhanced.
Improvements will be in the form of fencing to exclude livestock and
adding to the overall diversity of the wetland system by blasting
potholes or excavating shallow water areas. Within these 268.5 acres,
approximately 13.2 acres of open water mixed with aquatic and emergent
vegetation (type 3,4 and 5 wetland) will replace the sedge, rush,
cattail and saltgrass vegetation (type 1,2,3 and 9 wetland) that
presently exists. To date, 2.6 acres of the above 13.2 acres planned
in wetland has been installed. An additional 34.5 acres of wetland
has also been developed on upland sites. Wetland habitat management
is being applied to 126.2 acres of the planned 305.4 acres.
A net gain of 32.02 WDV's are estimated to be gained over pre-
contract condition When all scheduled wetland practices and management
are implemented. Since constructed wetland placed on upland sites is
already surpassing planned estimates by 11.2 acres, the estimated gain
of 32.02 WUV's is below what actual values will be. Constructed
wetlands will be evaluated 3 years following completion of contract.
At this time, no contracts fall in this category. Therefore, applied
WUV's have not been, calculated.

25
