All sites do not currently have contracts
in effect but in the future either these sites or at least
other fields controlled by these operator/owners should have
contracts. This is significant with regards to trend because
producers in the LGCU are indicating the desire to install
improved irrigation systems which will provide the means for
improved irrigation of a variety of crops. Also, the producer
can become better informed regarding the application of
irrigation water.
However, these intents do not entirely replace the deep
feelings instilled when the water first flowed in group
delivery canals...so long as the water shall flow through these
fields, it shall flow across them. The continuous flow of
inexpensive water and the "use it or lose it attitude" are
ever-present as we implement salinity control in the LGCU
project area.' ,

Irrigation trends will be shown as the M&E program collects
data over a period of years.

E) irrigation adequacies at sites (IWM practices) ,

Site 10
Pipeline to gated pipe. This system should be adequate for good
control of water application and the landowner is willing to
communicate about irrigation water management. Soil moisture
condition needs to be identified prior to irrigation events
(especially the first one) and this communicated to landowner.
In 1994 this will be a cooperative CSUCE and SCSeffort.

Site 17
Pipeline to gated pipe. The total field of 58 acres was not
monitored. On the west end of the field, two 'identical 7 acre
blocks were irrigated. Comparison of IWM and crop yields was
done on the block that was irrigated using surge and the block
that was irrigated by using conventional gated pipe. Unique feature is that a large
water volume is available and entire field can be irrigated in
a short duration.
