1) The amount of water applied to the field and not leaving the
field is shown as Depth and the average is 36.3 acre
inches. GV 1992 value = '41.8

~<l:
',..',.

2) The actual evapotranspiration (ET) is shown as an average of
~ 18.8 inches. GV 1992 value = 27.3
~ Note: This is due to the differences in the ET for crops
~ on those fields monitored, more than anything else, ie. in
~\ the'LG - beans and in the GV - alfalfa.

3) The average deep percolation was 20.6 inches. GV 1992 value
= 16.8. Site numbers 10 and 17 allow for comparison of
surge ~ith site numbers 21 and 22 which have conventional
systems. The average deep percolation for these sites was
20.8 and 20.6 respectively; however, results from the CSUCE
program (see note below) showed values of 5.07 and 21.5.
GV 1992 values were 11.4 and 21.9.
Note: The apparent excessive deep percolation on the two
surge sites was due to long set times during the first
irrigation, (allowing field surface to "black over"). The
average deep percolation for these sites on that first
,irrigation was 15.8 inches with all remaining irrigations
contributing an average deep percolation of only 5 inches.
Also: Considering the statistical data collection alone,
the CSUCE Surge Program provides much broader base on Which
to compare conventional vs. surge. The above figures are
from demonstration results based on 44 sites (CSUCE,
December 1993, p. 14 and 15).

4) The seasonal application efficiency average was 25\. GV
1992 value was 45%.

. :~?:)

5) Surface runoff average was 42 percent of the total water
,applied to the field. GV 1992 value was 25.4%.

B) ,summary of field evaluations

Site 10
Inflow - CSUCE flow meter.
during some irrigations.
readings were used.
Outflow - 10" broadcrested weir, potentiometer, Omnidata
datapod 115: operational during all 4 irrigations.

Meter did not record total gallons
For these, CSUCE surge program inflow

site 17
InflOW - CSUCE flow meter: operational during all 6
irrigations.
