'i, :". ~-'F <br />t>~:~~:,,;r~]$ <br /> <br />Dear Sir: <br /> <br />To comply with the provisions of the National Environmental Policy <br />Act of 1969, Public Law 91-190, we have prepared a preliminary draft <br />of an environmental statement for the collection and diversion ele- <br />ment of the San Juan-Chama. project, Colorado-New lexico. We are <br />enclosing a copy of the draft and a map showing project features for <br />your use in evaluating the statelllent. <br /> <br />Although construction of the San Juan-Chama. project was initiated <br />before en!l.ctlllent of the act, it has been determined that this work <br />is a major Federal action which could have a significant effect on <br />the environment. Construction began in 1964 and is now about <br />75 percent cOlllplete. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 102(2)(c) of the National Environmental <br />Policy Act, and our own departmental regulations, we are requesting <br />your comments on the draft of environmental statement. When your <br />comments and those of other agencies concerned. are received, we will <br />revise and complete the statement. It will then be furnished to the <br />Council on Environmental Quality by the Department of the Interior. <br />Any comments that you make will be included as an enclosUre to the <br />statement when it is forwarded to the Council. <br /> <br />In the interest of having a completed statement available for con- <br />sideration by the CounCil, we would appreciate receiving your comments <br />by April 30, 1971. Unless comments are received by that date, we will <br />assume that you have none. <br />
