These include formal and informal state agency <br />estimates of possible Indian water claims, published and un- <br />published tabulations and studies by the Bureau of Indian <br />Affairs, the Department of Interior and other federal agencies, <br />documents relating to litigation, negotiation and legislation <br />of Indian water rights and "at large" literature. In gather- <br />ing the information, the WSWC staff conducted extensive re- <br />search itself and contacted each western state requesting <br />information relating to Indian water claims. BIA area offices <br />were also contacted, as was the Department of Interior in <br />Washington, D.C. <br /> <br />All obtainable information was assembled and tabulated <br />in the tables below. The first two colums in the tables list <br />the names of the Indian land holdings and their corresponding <br />acreages. The second two list currently irrigated Indian <br />lands, potentially irrigable Indian lands and a calculated <br />unit withdrawal coefficient for the listed reservations. Unless <br />specifically noted otherwise (see notes for each reservation) , <br />none of this information purports to be a "PIA" estimate as that <br />term has been judicially defined.
