<br />The System Today
<br />The National Wild and Scenic
<br />Rivers System includes 19 rivers
<br />and Slreams. These are 8 "instant"
<br />rivers named by the Wild and Sce-
<br />nic Rivers Act, Public Law 90-542,
<br />plus 7 added by later legislation,
<br />Public law 92-560, Public law 93-
<br />279. Public Law 94.199, and Public
<br />Law 94-466.
<br />The eight initially InCluded in the
<br />syslem are:
<br />Middle Fork 01 the Clearwater in
<br />Idaho
<br />Eleven Point In Missouri
<br />Feather in California
<br />Rio Grande in New Mexico
<br />Rogue 10 Oregon
<br />51. Croix in Minnesota and
<br />Wisconsin
<br />Middle Fork ollhe Salmon in Idaho
<br />Wolf in Wisconsin
<br />The National System includes
<br />four Slale-administered rivers, the
<br />AllagaSh In Maine added by the
<br />Secretary 01 the Interior in 1970: the
<br />little Miami in Ohio in 1973; the
<br />Lillie Beaver in Ohio In 1975: and
<br />the New in North Carolina in 1976.
<br />The Secretary also designated a
<br />25-mile segment of the Lower SI.
<br />Croix in 1976. extending lhat initial
<br />component.

<br />Study Rivers
<br />Since the inceplion 01 the Wild
<br />and Scenic Rivers Program, 58
<br />streams have been aulhorized by
<br />Congress lor study as potential ad-
<br />ditions to the system.
<br />By the end of 1976. nine studies
<br />had been completed and reported
<br />to the President and Congress.
<br />These include the Lower 51. Croix,
<br />Challooga. Suwannee, Upper Iowa,
<br />Lillie Beaver, Little Miami, Aile.
<br />gheny, Clanon, and Maumee.
<br />Qlthe rivers sludied to dale, only
<br />lhree-the Allegheny and Clarion
<br />in Pennsylvania and the Maumee
<br />In Indiana and Ohio-have been
<br />found nOI qualified for inclusion in
<br />the syslem.
