It is an off-channel <br /> <br />reservoir supplied water from East Rifle Creek by the Grass Valley <br /> <br />Canal and fills in all years by diversion during the non-irrigation <br /> <br />or winter months. <br /> <br />Water right of the Farmer's Irrigation Company has a priority date <br />of 1887 for the direct diversion of 100 second-feet in the Grass <br />Valley Canal. '!he canal is 5~ miles long and has a capacity of about <br /> <br />60 second-feet. Water rights of Rifle Creek date from 1882 with the <br /> <br />right of the Farmer's Irrigation Company junior to rights of a large <br /> <br />number of ditches on lower Rifle Creek. The Company is shut off from <br /> <br />fu.rther diversion of wa.ter from East Rifle Creek early in July of the <br /> <br />average year and water users depend on storage in Harvey Gap Reservoir <br /> <br />for irrigation during the balance of the season. Only t!lose lands under <br /> <br />the reservoir can participate in reservoir water. Other lands under the <br /> <br />Compal\\' are left without irrigation water after direct flow rights <br /> <br />are shut off. <br /> <br />The Davie Ditch also diverts from East Rifle Creek. The point of <br /> <br />diversion is near the junction of East Rifle Creek with RiJle Creek. <br /> <br /> <br />A total of 340 acres is served by the ditch. Water right! of the <br /> <br /> <br />ditch ~a priority date of 1906 for direct diversion of 8.66 second- <br /> <br /> <br />feet. The capacity of the ditch is approximately 10 second-feet. Lands <br /> <br /> <br />under the Davie Ditch duf' to thiil late priority of water right receive <br /> <br />~ I <br /> <br />only a ver,y meager supply in good precipitation years and in dr,y years <br /> <br />they receive no water. The lands are used primarily for the growing <br /> <br />of alfalfa and srrall grain. <br /> <br />J <br />
