<br />C) <br /> <br />-. , <br />~..' .' <br /> <br />...~ <br /> <br />GENERAL DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />Location <br /> <br />The Silt Project is in Garfield County of Western Colorado. <br /> <br />Project lands are north of the Colorado P~ver near the town of Silt, <br /> <br />20 miles west of Glenwood Springs and 65 miles east of Grand Junction. <br /> <br />The source of water suoply is Rifle Creek, tributary to the Colorado <br />, . <br /> <br />River with confluence at the city of Rifle. The Grand Hogback, a <br /> <br />predominant hard rock topographic feature of Western Colorado crosses <br /> <br />the project area and forms the dam site for development of project <br /> <br />reservoir water supply. <br /> <br />Climate <br /> <br />The climate is semi-arid, typical of other areas of Western Colorado <br /> <br />of similar altitude. Project fann land v~ries in elevation from 5500 <br /> <br />to 650~ feet. A Weather Bureau station has been maintained at Rifle <br /> <br /> <br />near the .project with only small 1058 of record since 1910. C1imat- <br /> <br />ologice~ data collected for period of record, 1910-1943, and for period <br />of water supply study, 1937-1943, are summarized in the following <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />tables. It w.ill be. noted that the precipitation for the period of <br /> <br />water supply study is very near that reported for the long-time period. <br />The average length of frost-free season is 140 days, running from Ma;r 12 <br />to September 29.
