The

farmer's net income per man hour of labor w~ll be increased and insured

thus brinsing agriculture income clossr to parity with industry.

Higher agriculture income also means a higher standard of living for

the farm family. The present average annual income per farm unit is

estimated to not exceed $1,600 while the farm unit income after project

development is estimated to be $2-;?6e~
J_+t. ()

Repayment Ability

A study of increase in net crop income, taking into consideration

the increase in irrigation opera.tion and mainten!l.nce cost, interest

on additional investment, insurance, taxes and an allowance for justi-

fiable profits, indicates water users can pay $2.25 per acre annually

for project water. The total repayment to be expected from irrigation

on such basis would be $14,600 per ~rear, or $58h,OOO over a 40 year

.,
I

period.

In addition to repayment from irrigation the City of Rifle would

repay 1/9 the estimated cost of the project for the use of 1,000 acre-

feet of storage capacity in the Rifle Gap Reservoir. Such repayment

l~" '

would amount to $1.38,000 over 40 years. The total repl\yable project

cost would then be $722,000, or 58% of the estimated cost of the

l
I

project based on January 1940 prices.

Project Repayment Organization

A repayment contract between the Federal Government and an

organization representing local water users covering the cost of the

project repayable by irrigation can be h"ndlerl by cent racting with'
