New lands were classified accord- <br /> <br />ing to their suitableness for irrigation farming, with due regard for <br /> <br />the features of soil, topography and drainage. Such lands were placed <br /> <br />in two classes. The lands having the greatest potential productive <br /> <br />capacity were listed as Class 1. The lands wi~h slight~ less desirable <br /> <br />characteristics, being inferior to Class 1 in 50il depth, texture, <br /> <br />topography or drainage, were listed as Class 2. <br /> <br />The lands irrigated were classified as such even though the water <br /> <br />supply may have been inadequate for a long period of years. A total of <br /> <br />6,836 acres was classified within the project boundar,y. Of this area <br /> <br />5,557 acres were classified irrigated, 313 acres Class 1 arable land <br />and 966 acres Class 2 arable land. <br /> <br />-.J <br />
