The ambient monitoring data will thus show where the most

widespread impacts occur, and will qualitatively be combined with identified

nonpoint'source activities such as abandoned mining .or agricultural activities

that may contribute to water quality problems.

Evaluated sources of data.provide a means of identifying potential problems

areas for which hard data has not been generated. Areas of serious nonpoint

concer~ which are identified thorugh evaluated methods should be monitored to

gather hard data to support the severity identified in this assessment. It is

also important to note that only minimal information is available from which

to judge the impact of nonpoint sour.ces to both groundwater aud wetlands. An

effort to obtain this data, both from existing sources, and new

investigations, should be a priority for the State and EPAin the coming years.

Categories and Subcategories of Nonpoint Source Pollution

The following categories and subcategories of nonpoint sources have been

, agreed to by the E.P.A., and State of Colorado for the purposes of describing

the general sources from which nonpoint sources emanate.

'Agriculture
Non-irrigated crop production

Irrigated.crop production

Specialty crop production (e.g., truck farming and orchards)

Pasture land

Feedlots - all types

-43-
