Colorado which are <br /> <br />'~ <br />'impacted by nonpoint sources of water pollution. Nonpoint sources are those <br /> <br />sources which are diffuse in nature, and not regulated through the permit <br /> <br />" <br />[! <br /> <br />program of the Clean Water Act. These sources are comprised of runoff from: <br /> <br />".:, <br />~ " <br /> <br />urban areas, agricultural activities, forestry and logging activities, <br /> <br />;~. <br /> <br />construction activities, and areas of abandoned/inactive mining. The primary <br /> <br />:.:. <br /> <br />pollutants of concern emanating from these earth disturbance activities are. <br /> <br /> <br />sediment, salinity, heavy metals, nutrients (phosphorus and nitrogen) and <br /> <br />,,:, <br />~.-; <br /> <br />~ ~~ <br />\.~j <br /> <br />bacteria. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />This assessment has been prepared by the Water Quality Control Division of the <br /> <br />.'" <br />~:~ <br />..:~; <br /> <br />Colorado Department of Health, with the assistance of the Colorado Nonpoint <br /> <br />Source Task Force, and is intended to serve as Colorado's nonpoint source <br /> <br />t->-~ <br />~':~ <br />'A: <br /> <br />assessment as required by Section 319 of the Federal Clean Water Act. The <br /> <br />1>" <br />....f.ii <br />j.>fl <br />~;~;: <br /> <br />Task Force is comprised of a broadly constituted committee representing <br /> <br />governmental agencies, environmental groups, and special interest groups. The <br /> <br />'f:>:,l <br />;,:-;;, <br />. ~:~~~ <br /> <br />Task Force has served as an advisory body, and also assisted in the collection <br /> <br />of data, as well as the writing and editing of this report. ' <br /> <br />SJ <br />lf~ <br /> <br />This assessment report utilizes a wide variety of information sources and <br /> <br />~;~~ <br />f~4-'~ <br />~;:;~, <br /> <br />assessment techniques, drawing on reports. produced by Federal, State, and <br /> <br />ri1 <br />tf~ <br /> <br />Local agencies and also the knowledge of individuals and organizations <br /> <br />familiar with nonpoint source problems. New studies as they have been <br /> <br />-11- <br /> <br /> <br />performed are also taken into account in preparing this assessment report. <br />
