Add sediment to Colorado River tributaries below Glen Canyon
Dam as means of putting more sediment into the river for
beach augmentation.

7. Beach stabilization by means of natural material, i.e.,
plant & rocks, introduced material, i.e., exotic plants,
construction materials, beach augmentation, and beach
construction.

8. Sediment piling up as the Colorado River flows into Lake
Mead should be removed so power boats could travel up
stream.

9. Study ways to conserve the sediment that does flow down the
river.

FISH HABITAT

Endangered Fishes

1. This element would focus on the presumed needs of the
humpback chub. Its primary purpose is the protection of
the LCR population of humpback chub.

* Mid-April through mid-June: The dam would be operated to
deliver enough water to maintain high-steady flows in
the magnitude of 30,000 cfs.

* During the remainder of the year, lower, but steady flows
would be delivered downstream.

* Humpback Chub Recovery Plan objectives should be pursued.

2. Stocking of humpback chub would be considered.

3. warming mainstem water to 62 F. during humpback chub
spawning season (May to June - but this time length may
differ if chub spawn earlier or later).

4. Localized protection of important or unique backwaters used
by native fish as larval hatcheries (warming of water,
protection from draining due to low flows, food augmentation
if needed, removal of competing exotic fishes, backwater
stabilization, augmentation, construction, etc).

5. Protect the humpback chub by limiting public access during
spawning season, and close the river to boaters, hikers, and
fishing if necessary.

14
