<br />.. .~.. ..~ ~, <br />~i~~;~i <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />BASALT pIlOJECT <br /> <br />GB~ERAL DISCUSSIONS <br /> <br />Plans for utilizing the water of Ruedi Reservoir as well as surplus <br />flows of .the Fr,ringpan River in the Basalt project area, on the basis of <br />reconnaissance studies, are described in a report dated August 1959 made <br />for the Colorado Water Conservation Board by Philip p. Smith. Secretary- <br />Engineer. the Colorado River Water Conservation District. The report is <br />appended to the Bureau of Reclamation report of September 1959 on the <br />Ruedi Dam and Reservoir. printed as House Document No. 353, 86th Congress. <br />2d Session. Other appendixes to that report which are related to the <br />Ruedi Reservoir include reports by the Corps of Engineer. Fish and lYild- <br />life Service. and National Park Service. and two reports made for the <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board on possible water requirements associ- <br />ated with potential oil shale developments near the Colorado River below <br />the Ruedi Reservoir site. <br /> <br />Present investigations <br /> <br />The present investigations. initiated in the spring of 1961. have <br />been direqted primarily toward determining the opUmum plan for irriga- <br />tion development of lands in the Basalt project area utilizing water of <br />the RuediReservoir. Data from previous investigations were utilized <br />where applicable. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The investigations have been generally of a reconnaissance nature. <br />Field work has included reconnaissance land claSSification. geologic <br />examinations of potential sites of terminal storage and canals and of <br />possible sources of construction materials, and the collection of data <br />on existing irrigation facilities and agricultural development. Office <br />work has included preparation of water supply estimates, simulated opera- <br />tion studies. designs and cost estimates, economic analyses, considera- <br />tion of various alternative plans of development. and the compilation of <br />the report and supporting data. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />11 <br /> <br />
