Brine ,rould be pwr,ped for a ~)eriod of at

:e-ast Oi1e montn. In o:cder to monitor groundl-rater conditions during t~ne

pun~ test~ a grid of observation holes would be drilled and piezometers

ltould. 0'2 il-:.ste..lled.

The t1-TO test 1-Tells would be 255 feet deep and 1muld be designed for

a maxim~~ production of 225 gallons per minute. The casing would be 10

t-
,-"',J

inches iD Qiameter and would eA~end approximately 3 feet above the grou~d

surface.

::-

The observation grid would consist of 28 piezometer clusters and one

observation well. Each piezometer cluster would contain three individual

pipes; one for measuring the groundwater level, one for measuring the

}JiezOTI,etric pressure at 110 feet, and one for measuring the piezometric

pressure at 225 feet. The pipes would each be 1 inch in diameter and would

extend 3.5 feet above the ground surface. The observation well (sho,m on

:he attached map) 1-Tould be a 50-foot-deep auger hole used to determine

chan6cs in th~ fresh water-brine interface. The 4-inch-inside-diameter

casinz of the hole 1-Tould extend 3~ feet above the ground surface.

Since the test facilities would be located in a flood plain subject

to high runoff in fall, winter, and spring, a network of all-weather access

roads would be constructed to the production holes and piezometer wells.

Approximately 3.7 miles of road, covering a total area of about 16 acres,

1-Tould be required, The roads would be constructed of 3,100 cubic yards of

pit-run ~~2v21 fro~ two existing berrow areas located nearby. Five baybec

"rire gates, one tuol:.lar metal gate, and several culverts would be installee-.

3
