<br />MAY 1982 <br /> <br />Montezuma County has a work force of about 6,5UO persons 3/ <br /> <br />including 6000 presently employed. The unemployment rate is 6.9% as <br /> <br />compared with 5.2% unemployment for Colorado. Rural areas account for <br /> <br />approximately 4U% of the population, however, only 510 are presently <br /> <br />employed in agriculture. <br /> <br />Employment data later than 1970 are not available on a complete <br /> <br />breakdown basis. Retail trade as a whole is the largest employer in the <br /> <br />County.
