Title: Determine habitat availability and habitat use of endangered fishes in the Yampa
River during baseflow periods,

II. Principal Investigators:

Tim Modde
Colorado River Fish Project
266 W, 100 N" Suite 2
Vernal, UT 84078
801/789-0354, FAX: 80\1789-4805

Rick Anderson
Colorado Division of Wildlife
317 W, Prospect
Fort Collins, CO 80526
970/484-2836 x 339

III. Project Summary: The goal of this study was to determine habitat availability at various
low flow scenarios and habitat use patterns of endangered fishes in the Yampa River
during the lowest flow period of the year (i.e, August through October), This project
consisted of biological and physical data collection components to define the baseflow
needs of endangered fishes in the Yampa River. The field work was completed during
1996 and 1997, Data analysis and report preparation was conducted during 1998 and a
final report was submitted to the RIP Biology Committee 16 December 1998,

IV, Study Schedule:
a, Initial year: FY 1996
b, Final year: FY 1998

V, Relationship to RIPRAP: This study relates to the Green River Action Plan Yampa River
elements I.A.2" I.A.4,a,(3),(a)" and I.B,2, of identifying baseflow discharge needs of
endangered fishes in the Yampa River,

VI. Accomplishment of FY 98 Tasks and Deliverables of Initial Findings and Shortcomings:
A draft final report was completed and distributed to the expert panel (Dr, Bill Trush,
Trush and McBain, Inc" Dr, Bob White, Montana Cooperative Fish and'Wildlife
Research Unit, and Dr, Stephen Ross, University of Southern Mississippi) at the end of
August. Review comments were received in October, A meeting with the expert panel
(minus Dr, Trush) was held in Denver with the Principal Investigators, Program staff, and
consultants involved with the Yampa River Management Plan EIS on October 19-20,
